Junior Showmanship

Trace Mauldin is 15 years old living in Palatka Florida. At the age of 9 years old Trace began showing dogs (English Springers) and has qualified for Westminster each year. At 10 years old he was the youngest junior at the Westminster dog show. He has enjoyed working with several handlers which have taught him much about showing different breeds, grooming and the business of dog shows. Of all the dogs he has shown he loves showing Dakota his English Springer and as many have seen Dakota loves his boy too, they make quite the team when in the ring. Trace is a member of the Chattahoochee English Spaniel Club in Georgia and Own Best Junior at their specialty show in the past.

Trace currently owns 4 Springers and one (Jewli) sleeps in his bed every night.

My junior career began with Billie, our pet Springer, her breeder Donna encouraged me to try juniors. A year later Julie Kay offered me her veteran dog Jaryd Kay. He constantly challenged me and forced me to try to out think him. Along the way he earned his Grand Championship and we earned multiply Best of Breeds and Group placements. At the age of 9 he is enjoying semi-retirement and has started obedience class with me.

Baxter, our 3 year old out of our first liter, has taken over the majority of my junior classes, while also working towards his Grand Champion. I have also given our 11 month old puppies, Ducky and Daley, their turn in the junior ring.

Many of my school friends don’t understand why I would want to give up my weekends to go to a dog show. What they can’t understand is dog shows is where my friends and family are. I look forward to the weekends to see my Springer family, I wouldn’t be where I am or the person I am today without them.

There are too many people to thank but a special thank you to Dan and Nancy for all the handling classes. I would also like to thank Rhonda, Tracy, Annetta, Julie, and Lynda, for all the advice and support and everyone else for cheering me on. But the biggest thank you goes to my grandmother and mother, the biggest supporters of them all.
