2011 RUNNER-UP SHOW DOG OF THE YEAR

GCH CH OTEIN CAP'N JACK SPARROW
CH RAMBLEWOOD JOHNNY B. GOODE x CH OTEIN AT THE COPA
(Jack)
Owned by Gerald Ryser, Jean Ryser, Robert Nieto and Lori Nieto
Bred by Robert & Lori Nieto

Well, 2011 was another great year for a wonderful dog and his pirate crew with numerous Best of Breeds, Specialty wins and Group placements.

Now is the best part...Having Jack at home to lay in the recliner with us and wake us with kisses each morning. It’s also a pleasure to hear from the owners of his kids, many of whom are just beginning to show and start their own careers. Jack has continuously produced exceptional temperaments in his get which makes for great show dogs.

Again, thanks to Bob and Lori Nieto for allowing us to have this “perfect” Springer Spaniel. Also, to our friend and Jack’s navigator, Lynda O’Connor-Schneider for the care and love she has given to Jack over the last two years, we couldn’t have done this without her.

Best of luck to all who are still out there in the thick and we hope every exhibitor will have a dog like Cap’n Jack sometime in their life.

2011 RUNNER-UP SHOW BITCH OF THE YEAR

GCH CH KEEPSAKE N SUNLAINE SPECIAL BLEND
GCH CH CROWNROYAL'S TEA CADDY BN RA x CH KEEPSAKE SURPRISE PACKAGE
(Bailey)
Owned by Bonita Regan
Bred by Bonita Regan & Ms. Frances A Nelson
“Bailey” is a special blend of great Springers in her pedigree. One of a litter of four – three of whom finished their AKC championships – “Bailey” is the result of finding and utilizing important breed type elements from the past as we strive to improve the breed for the future.

“Bailey’s” pedigree reveals some important influences. “Bailey’s” paternal granddam, the great Ch CrownRoyal’s Black Tea Leaves, was the daughter of Ch Salilyn’s Nicholas – a dog not well known, but whose type and quality we admired. On the maternal side, “Bailey’s” dam, “Velvet,” was Runner-Up Parent Club Show Bitch of 2006. “Velvet” (Ch Salilyn’s Night Music x Ch Keepsake N’Nova She’s The One) represents the third generation of Bonnie Regan’s Keepsake bitches who all derive much quality from the Salilyn dogs she admires.

“Bailey’s” great qualities include her lovely, chiseled head and correct eye shape, color, and placement; correct leg/body proportion, genuine substance, and outstanding reach, drive, and foot timing.

We have had wonderful support throughout “Bailey’s” journey (which is by no means over!). From her Specialty wins as a puppy to finishing on the same day as her litter brother, “Boston,” at the prestigious Eastern Specialty, to her BOS win at the 2011 National Specialty, “Bailey” has earned and kept the attention of Springer specialists. Kellie FitzGerald and Chris Berg have done a brilliant job of conditioning and presenting “Bailey” at her best, even when her lively and headstrong personality (a blessing of her pedigree) occasionally appears.

We are as thrilled to receive this wonderful recognition for “Bailey” as we were to receive it for her dam. This is what all breeders aspire to achieve.

2011 SHOW SIRE OF THE YEAR

CH SPRINGBROOK TAGALONGMYOWNMAGIC
CH. ESPECIAL MADISON AVENUE x CH. SPRINGBROOK'S CHRISTMAS MAGIC
(Owen)
Owned by Sarah Kraft, Rebecca Hoskins and Paul Kraft
Bred by Rebecca Hoskins

Rebecca Hoskins and I would like to thank all of the breeders and owners of Owen's get who have made this award possible. We have never set out to try and win a Show Sire Award, and are honored to receive it for a fourth time in 2011 as well as having received a runner-up award one year. What we enjoy most is hearing about the antics, wins, and performance titles of his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

As Owen turns twelve at this writing, I cherish every day I have had with this silly, smiling, cowlick-nosed boy, and hope there are still many more to come.

2011 SHOW DAM OF THE YEAR

GCH CH CERISE BAREFOOT CONTESSA
CH. FELICITY’S DIAMOND JIM CDS, RE "JAMES" x CH. CERISE KISS ME KATE CD, NAJ, RN, WD “KATEY”
(Ava)
Owned by Ann Summerfelt and Dorothy Cherry
Bred by Dorothy Cherry

Ava is a star in her own right and could easily have been the Cerise “Special.” She was an early star, winning multiple Best Puppy in Show , including the Big Apple Specialty, prior to Westminster in 2007. Ava also won one Select Bitch and two Award of Merits at the Eastern English Springer Spaniel Club in 2011, and Award of Merits at Keystone and the 2011 National. All that after three litters! Bravo Ava!

Ava was bred four times. First, to Ch. Cerise Cerutti (Peter), producing three champions, including Ch. Cerise Sentinel (Sebastian), winner of BOW at the Keystone Specialty prior to the 2011 National. She was then bred to Ch. Rendition Guardian Angel (Kevin) and produced four champions, including the winner of both the Sweepstakes at the National 2010 and Winners Bitch at the National 2011, GCh. Cerise Dixieland Dutches. She was bred to GCh. Cerise Signature of Telltale RN, CD, TDI “Dustin,” and her offspring are currently competing. Already, Cerise Prince of Wales “William” is a multiple Specialty BOW and looks forward to Eastern and National, along with his litter mate, Eloise.

Finally, in the whelping box, is her litter by Cerise Lionheart “Richard.”

2011 RUNNER-UP SHOW SIRE OF THE YEAR (2-way tie)

CH TARA'S MASTER OF D GAME
CH PRIZE'S LOVE OF THE GAME "KEVIN" x CH TARA'S DOUBLE D "HOOTER"
(Falcon)
Owned by Lauren E. Williams, Janice M. Spence and Alan Spence
Bred by Janice M. Spence & Debbie Straw

Falcon was an awkward, lazy, unsure puppy. I was told, “Get rid of him. You can buy sperm anywhere!” Something about this puppy said special. After a few weeks at camp in North Carolina with Pointers and Vizslas his confidence was made.

In 2007 at the National Specialty in Lexington, Kentucky Lynda O’Connor-Schneider and Falcon formed a lifetime bond. After he received an Award of Merit that hot September day I will never forget the judge saying “You need to get this dog to California!” A competitor remarked, “Don’t send that dog to California!” The rest is history.

Falcon lost only three classes during the quest for his championship. He went Best of Opposite in 2004 at Eastern’s ESSC Futurity, Best in Sweeps in Somerset, PA. and placed twice in the Elite Dog competition in Salem, VA.

After arriving in California in late 2007, Falcon and Lynda quickly became the talk of the West Coast. For over two years they were a major force in the Springer & group rings earning:

145 Breed Wins
19 Group Wins
50 Group Placements
2 Bests In Show
16 Specialty Wins
Eukanuba National Championship: 2009 - AOM, 2010 - BOB / Group 2
2009 & 10 Westminster Kennel Club: Awards of Merit
2010 American Spaniel Club – BOB

OUR SINCERE THANKS to Falcon’s backers, Glenda McCain, Debbie Trueblood and Judy Inman, as well as the breeders who used him in their programs. We are humbly honored!

A very special thanks and sincere gratitude to Goober’s true love, Lynda O’Connor-Schneider.
